An Indiana State Trooper with more than 20 years of service was arrested Friday on forgery charges.

First Sgt. Rick Reed, 53, of Westfield, was arrested at his downtown in Indianapolis office for allegedly forging sales purchase price information on vehicle titles. Investigators say Reed forged the documents to lower sales tax payments as compared to the purchase price.

He was arrested for allegedly committing six counts of felony forgery. Each count carries a possible sentence of 2-8 years in jail and a maximum fine of $10,000.

Reed, who has been with ISP for 24 years, was placed on unpaid administrative leave after his arrest. His police powers have been suspended until the completion of his trial. A state police release says if Reed is found guilty of any felony charges, his employment with the department will be terminated.
