WEST LAFAYETTE -

A former U.S. surgeon general will speak at Purdue University about how to combat common health issues.

David Satcher will give the free lecture March 26 at 8 p.m. in Stewart Center's Loeb Playhouse. His speech will focus on the gap between what people know and what they actually do fight common health problems such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, mental health and AIDS. Satcher will also speak about gaps in health care due to ethnicity, race and culture.

The former surgeon general is widely recognized for his dedication to improving Americans' health and eliminating disparities based on race and culture.
