INDIANAPOLIS -

A pedestrian was killed on I-65 southbound near downtown Indianapolis Thursday.

It happened at around 2:30 pm. Witnesses told police a white male walked westbound across I-65 and stopped in the middle of three lanes. The driver of a Ford Econoline van was southbound on I-65 and was unable to avoid striking the man.

The driver of the van did not have any alcohol in his system and is cooperating fully with the investigation. He will not face any charges.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene by the Marion County coroner's office. An autopsy will determine if the man was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The victim's identity will be released once his family has been notified.
