Pussy Riot: authorities try to stop play about punk band

MOSCOW -

It's no secret that Russian authorities aren't big fans of Pussy Riot.

So much so that a Swiss theater director says they bum-rushed a theater where he was putting on a play about the trial of the punk band. Milo Rau says the officials busted into the play Sunday and demanded to check his papers.

The officials were followed by a group of angry Cossacks who also claimed they were offended by the play. Rau was irritated by the interruption and said it was more amateurish than authoritarian. As he put it: "It was more Kafka than Stalin."

In the end, the raid ended when it was determined that Rau's visa and traveling papers were all in order.
