Clarksville girl, 17, slain after sexual assault

CLARKSVILLE -

A prosecutor says a southern Indiana girl was sexually assaulted before she was slain.

Clark County Prosecutor Steve Stewart tells the News and Tribune that 17-year-old Tara Willenborg of Clarksville "suffered a horrible death" Saturday morning in her apartment. However, neither he nor police indicated how she died.

Stewart says formal charges will be prepared Monday accusing 49-year-old Richard Carley Hooten of murder and sexual assault.

Hooten was being held Sunday in the Clark County Jail. He was arrested walking down a Clarksville street several hours after Willenborg's body was found by her boyfriend when he returned home from work early Saturday.

Clarksville Police Department Maj. Darrell Rayborn says Willenborg and Hooten knew one another.

Rayborn says Hooten has resided in Clark County, Louisville, Ky., and Georgia but his current home address isn't known.
