Ja Rule out of prison, still in custody

Posted: Updated:
ALBANY, NEW YORK -

Out of the prison - but not out of trouble. That's the latest route Ja Rule is making through the legal system.

Federal authorities in New York State say the rapper has been released from a state prison. He was let go last week after serving out his two-year sentence for illegal gun possession. But that doesn't mean he's a free man. He heads right back behind bars - headed to federal custody in Brooklyn, New York in a federal tax evasion case.

He expects to be out in late July. Ja Rule is 36. He admits failing to pay taxes on more than $3 million earned between 2004 and 2006 while he lived in New Jersey.
