Crews called to church fire on Indianapolis east side

INDIANAPOLIS -

Firefighters with the Indianapolis Fire Department are at the scene of a fire at St. Bernadette Church. That's at 4826 Fletcher Ave. on the Indianapolis east side.

Fire was showing on arrival.

The fire started in the upstairs living quarters of the convent. Five nuns lived in the convent, which is considered a total loss. One of the nuns tried to put out the fire but suffered smoke inhalation.

One firefighter suffered a slight steam burn.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
