Snowfall brings slick conditions to central Indiana highways

INDIANAPOLIS -

The blowing snow and dropping temperatures made driving difficult Wednesday night.

Eyewitness News crews saw several accidents around town.

The effort to fight icy conditions meant bringing in drivers overnight to monitor the roads and bridges since they typically freeze first.

Earlier in the night, though, drivers already had to contend with slippery conditions. Those icy conditions led to several slide-offs around the metro area.

A woman driving a car waited for more than an hour for help after her car hit an icy patch and slid off Interstate 65 South near the 65/70 split.

Emergency crews had a hard time finding her because her car had slid so far down the embankment and crews couldn't see her from the road. The woman wasn't injured, just shaken up after waiting for help to come.

Those same nasty conditions were everywhere as a heavy and wet snow fell south of the city along I-65 South near Greenwood.

Salt trucks for both the Department of Public Works and the state were out all night salting roads to deal with the wet and icy conditions that often lead to slide-offs and even more serious accidents.
