INDIANAPOLIS -

A man trapped in a north Indianapolis house fire Wednesday has died.

It happened in the 7500 block of Brackenwood Circle, near Hoover Road and W. 73rd Street.

A man reportedly in his 60s was found unresponsive, about 10 feet from an exit door inside the house, when firefighters arrived. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition with burn and smoke inhalation injuries, but did not survive.

The identity of the man has not yet been released.

Fire investigators say the fire started in a front office of the residence, along a wall. They are not ruling out an electrical cause to the fire.

The house was nearly gutted by the blaze and there was damage to the home next door. Damages are estimated at more than $100,000.
