INDIANAPOLIS -

An Indianapolis man crashed his SUV late Saturday night after trying to run from the State Police.

Two Indiana State Troopers detouring traffic around the overpass repair on I-65 observed Jeremiah Casmire traveling at a high rate of speed just after 11:00 p.m.

The 31-year-old man was driving his 2000 Ford Expedition northbound on I-65 at a speed of 86 mph in a 50 mph zone.

Casmire drove his SUV around the detour barricades, nearly striking one of the Trooper's vehicles and continued driving west bound on I-70.

After failing to stop for the officers, Casmire exited on Harding Street and crashed into a bridge abutment at Kentucky Avenue and Belmont Street.

He was transported to Wishard Hospital and underwent surgery for injuries sustained in the crash.

Troopers at the scene of the crash reported observing signs and symptoms of impairment in the driver and a blood draw was obtained.

Additional traffic related charges are also pending upon completion of the crash investigation.
