Jauwan Scaife sank a 3-pointer as time expired, capping a wild final minute and giving Ball State an 85-82 victory over BracketBusters foe Southeast Missouri on Saturday night in the first-ever meeting between the schools.
Scaife had 18 points, including two free throws that gave the Cardinals (11-14) a 77-67 lead with 1:33 left. But a combination of Ball State turnovers, missed free throws and clutch Southeast Missouri shots helped the Redhawks (14-15) rally back. They tied game on Marland Smith's 3-pointer with 7 seconds left. After a timeout, Scaife nailed his game-winner.
Marcus Posley added 15 points for Ball State. Smith had 21 points for the Redhawks in his last home game, along with fellow seniors Corey Wilford (15 points) and Nick Niemczyk (13 points).
Southeast Missouri led by as many as nine before Ball State took its first lead, 56-54, on Chris Bond's jumper with 8:37 to play.
