COLUMBUS -

A south-central Indiana man has been sentenced to 9 1/2 years in prison after pleading guilty to beating his pregnant girlfriend and holding a knife to her throat.

Daniel S. Leonard was sentenced Monday by a Bartholomew County judge who accepted the 28-year-old Columbus man's guilty pleas to criminal confinement, battery to a pregnant woman and several other charges.

The Republic reports the judge who sentenced Leonard noted his criminal history, repeated probation violations and the nature of the crimes.

Court documents state that Leonard repeatedly beat his girlfriend over a 26-hour period in December 2011 and threatened to kill her and her 7-year-old son.

Those attacks included holding a knife to her throat in a car after he became enraged because he could not find his cell phone.
