INDIANAPOLIS -

Metro Police detectives are investigating a death on the east side of Indianapolis.

At around 3:22 Tuesday morning, police officers responded to a 911 caller, saying they heard several shots being fired. While checking the area, officers located a woman shot outside 2805 North Hawthorne Lane. That female victim died at the scene. No word yet on her identity.

Investigators with IMPD's Homicide Unit and representatives from the Marion County Crime Lab are processing the scene for possible evidence. Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to call IMPD Homicide Detectives at 327-3475 or Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS (8477).
