INDIANAPOLIS -
An elderly man died in a house fire Saturday afternoon on the Indianapolis
south side.
Indianapolis Fire Department crews got an alert from the home's alarm company
about a fire at the home in the 8900 block of Sunburst Circle at around 1:30 pm. That's just
off County Line Road near Madison.
No fire or smoke was showing from the outside of the home when crews arrived
at the scene. Once inside, however, crews encountered heavy smoke. They had the
fire under control within about 20 minutes.
Neighbors told fire crews that an elderly man lived in the home. Crews found
the victim in the living room and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Firefighters believe the fire started in the living room and was contained
there. Smoke detectors were in working order. They are still investigating the
cause.
It's believed the man had been living in the home for over 25 years.
Officials are not releasing his name until they can notify his family.
