GREENWOOD, Ind. -

The suspect wanted in connection with a Greenwood homicide crashed his truck into a Camby home Wednesday. The man shot himself and later died from his injuries.

It started Wednesday afternoon when police were called to 1000 Cornwall Court at Devonshire Apartments, where they found a man dead.

According to police, the estranged husband of the woman who lives in apartment went there to confront her and another man, who police describe as her friend or boyfriend.

According to police, the estranged husband spoke to the woman, then left. But he returned a short time later with a gun. The woman screamed and called police when she saw the gun. The male victim was shot in the head and the estranged husband fled the scene.

The woman told police she was able to escape to a neighbor's apartment and call police. The victim was taken to Community South Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His identity has not yet been released by police.

Indianapolis Metro Police officers spotted the man's blue truck in the Meijer parking lot at Heartland Crossing. They called for assistance and Indiana State Police joined the pursuit.

The suspect entered the Heartland Crossing neighborhood and police followed him.

A witness said she heard gunshots and saw the blue truck and police cars racing down the street. According to the witness, officers were shooting out the truck's tires, causing the driver to lose control.

Police, however, say the only shots fired were self-inflicted by the suspect.

The suspect took out two trees before slamming into the house in the 8900 block of Youngs Creek Lane. The residents were home at the time but were not injured. They were, however, very shaken up by the incident.

When officers approached the suspect's vehicle, they noticed a handgun next to the man, who was unresponsive and had apparently suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken by ambulance to Wishard Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The name of the suspect has also not been released, pending notification of relatives.

The Indianapolis Fire Department's Structure Collapse Team responded to the scene to inspect heavy damage to the home after the truck tore through a wall.

Pleasant Grove Elementary School held buses back as police waited to serve a warrant on the suspect's home in the Wakefield subdivision. Police also escorted children home who live in the Devonshire Apartments where the homicide took place in Greenwood.
