LOS ANGELES -

Fun. is a double Grammy winner. The pop-rock trio was named best new artist. The group bested Frank Ocean, who was buzzed to win the award. The band's lead singer Nate Ruess says he didn't expect his group to win best new artist. They were also up against Alabama Shakes, Hunter Hayes and The Lumineers.

Fun.'s "We Are Young" picked up song of the year early Sunday night. They also performed their new single "Carry On." "We Are Young" features Janelle Monae and hit the top spot of the Billboard charts last year. It has sold more than six million single tracks. Lead singer Nate Ruess joked onstage: "This is in HD, everyone can see our faces and we are not very young."

The group is nominated in all four top categories at Sunday's ceremony, but Mumford & Son won the Grammy for album of the year.

Mumford & Sons' won for "Babel." The British rockers said they didn't expect to win "since the Black Keys have been sweeping all day." It was the foursome's second win Sunday night. They also won best long form music video.

"Babel" is a platinum-selling success that is still rocking on the charts.

The Black Keys' Dan Auerbach was the night's top winner with four awards. Gotye, Skrillex, Black Keys, Jay-Z and Kanye West won three Grammys each. Ocean, Chick Corea, Esperanza Spalding and Matt Redman were double winners.

Last year's biggest hit was also the Grammy winner for record of the year: Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know" earned one of the night's top trophies.

It sold more than seven million single tracks. Prince presented the Australian singer with the award. Gotye said the pop icon was a big inspiration.

Gotye and Kimbra also won best pop duo/group performance for "Somebody That I Used to Know." Gotye's "Making Mirrors" picked up best alternative music album.

A guy riding a tricycle with a flame-thrower attached and a company of mime clowns helped Taylor Swift open the Grammy Awards. Swift dressed as the Mad Hatter in white top hat, tails, shorts and tall boots during the surreal version of her hummable hit "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together."

The singer pretended to talk to the offending boyfriend on the phone: "I'm busy opening the Grammys and we're never getting back together."
