BOCA RATON, Florida -

There were some tense moments on the campus of Florida Atlantic University Friday morning.

According to police, a person who may have been homeless was shot by campus officers on the roof of one of the research buildings. Officers wouldn't comment on whether or not the man was threatening the officers or how he gained access to the roof.

It appears the suspect may have produced a knife and shots were fired, according to the university's police chief.

The man is said to be between 20 to 30 years old. He was transported to the hospital in serious condition.
