More details on House budget expected soon

Posted: Updated:
INDIANAPOLIS -

More details of what the state's next budget looks like should emerge in the coming weeks.

Republican House Speaker Brian Bosma told reporters Thursday that he expects the House Ways and Means Committee to approve a budget shortly. He said he expects it to include more funding for education and transportation than Gov. Mike Pence submitted in his first budget.

Bosma has yet to say exactly how much would be spent or where exactly it would go.

Lawmakers will also have to decide whether they approve a roughly $500 million tax cut sought by Pence. The money would come out of a surplus left by former Gov. Mitch Daniels.
