Indiana middle school to host earthquake drill

Posted: Updated:
INDIANAPOLIS -

Indiana agencies will be visiting a middle school in Indianapolis to demonstrate proper earthquake safety techniques as part of a regional drill.

State and local Homeland Security agencies will give classroom presentations at Irvington Community Middle School at 9 a.m. Thursday. The drill will start at 10:15 a.m. and students will "evacuate" to the gymnasium for a brief assembly. Millions of people throughout the Midwest will be taking part in the 2013 Great Central U.S. ShakeOut.

The drill is held annually across the Midwest and encourages people to practice the "drop, cover and hold on" technique as well as to learn about the risk of earthquakes in Indiana.
