INDIANAPOLIS -

From a high temperature of 65 degrees at 1:00 a.m. Wednesday, the mercury fell to 23 degrees early Thursday morning.

Wind speeds above 30 miles per hour were recorded throughout central Indiana overnight, with Indianapolis, Kokomo and Richmond reaching gusts of 37 MPH.

Getting your child off to school, or the commute to work, may be tricky Thursday morning.  Be sure to bundle up and limit exposure to skin against the bitter wind chills in single digits.

Salt trucks have been working overnight to treat icy spots on roads, but sidewalks and parking lots might be slippery from Wednesday's rain.

Add to that a dusting of snow, and roads may get slick in places, as well.

Wayne County reported icy road conditions in far eastern Indiana. A crash without injury closed westbound I-70 at Centerville, just west of Richmond, at 3:30 a.m. and the road remained closed at 5:00 a.m.

The cool-down will continue, with highs Thursday only reaching the low 30s and flurries continuing.  Temperatures overnight into Friday will reach single digits, with wind chills below zero.
