INDIANAPOLIS -

Lawrence Central High School was evacuated Wednesday as fire crews investigated a report of pepper spray being discharged.

A total of 15 students were treated in the east side parking lot of the school for asthma symptoms. They were taken to Community North Hospital to be checked out.

The situation left many students confused about what was happening.

"When are we going to get out? I didn't really know what was going on, I didn't know if anyone had a gun. All they said was...a bell went off and they had everyone evacuated the building. We had to leave immediately," said student Thomas Ward.

According to school officials, there were two separate altercations between students when the chemical was released. At this point it isn't known who discharged the pepper spray.

"Somebody sprayed more mace into the gym, which had us all coughing again, so we came outside and there had to have been at least 15 fights between guys, girls, everything," said student David Roberts.

School dismissed at the normal time.
