Indiana secretary of state warns of deceptive letter

Posted: Updated:
INDIANAPOLIS -

The Indiana Secretary of State's Office is warning businesses to watch out for a deceptive letter that may appear to come from its Business Services Division seeking $125.

Secretary of State Connie Lawson says the letter should be ignored.

Lawson is concerned businesses may be confused by the letter and believe responding to it takes the place of business entity reporting that's required by state law. She says businesses operating in Indiana can securely perform the business entity reporting online.

The Secretary of State's Office say more than 100 businesses fell victim to a similar scam in 2008.
