LAPEL -

A 22-year-old man is dead and another man is in police custody after an early morning shooting near Lapel.

The Madison County Sheriff's Department received a call of a person shot in the 6400 block of County Road 300 South shortly after 3:00 am.

Deputies found one person dead inside a residence. He was later identified as 22-year-old Spencer Smith.

Police arrested Malcolm Douglas Cobb Jr., 45, of Anderson, in connection with the shooting.

Investigators are on the scene and a search warrant was being obtained for the home where the victim was found.

Investigators say they are in the early stages of the investigation.
