Historic Franklin buildings to get makeover

Posted: Updated:
FRANKLIN -

Buildings in downtown Franklin that were constructed in the 1900s will get a facelift that will help make them look more like they did originally.

Owners of eight buildings are sharing $450,000 from a state grant and city agency to replace awnings, fix cracked bricks and redo storefronts.

Lighthouse Antique Mall co-owner John Emry tells the Daily Journal he hopes the work makes the buildings look more historic.

The antique mall will get new siding as part of the work. The project also includes a renovated marquee at the Artcraft Theatre and a new overhang for an insurance company.

Each business will pay 5 percent of the cost.
