CONNERSVILLE -

The show will go on for a circus that became the target of animal rights activists, but without a star attraction.

The Stardust Circus's performances this weekend at the Fayette County Fairgrounds in Connersville will be missing "Rocky" the boxing kangaroo.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals protested plans for the kangaroo to box with a clown during a performance in Columbus last weekend. The kangaroo's performance was canceled after Columbus officials said circus organizers failed to file the proper paperwork.

Circus owner Oscar Garcia tells the News-Examiner the kangaroo and its owner have dropped off the circus tour since PETA's complaints.

Garcia says the boxing event was a comedy act and that the kangaroo was never harmed.
