DARLINGTON -
A short pursuit in Darlington early Saturday morning ended with a Trooper with the Indiana State Police firing a round at an alleged drunk driver.
Police say the chase that started just after midnight by the State Police and a Montgomery County Deputy on State Road 47 lasted about one minute. 61-year-old Craig Cook from Crawfordsville pulled over his blue Chevrolet pickup but refused to follow verbal commands to exit his vehicle.
When Cook finally exited the truck police say he still refused to comply with the officer's request. He then reached inside his clothing appearing to reach for a handgun on his belt causing the Deputy to taser him. At the same time as he was being tased, the State Trooper fired his gun at Cook. Cook fell to the ground from the taser, causing the Trooper's bullet to miss him.
Cook hit his head on the pavement after he fell from the taser. He was treated at the scene and transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
After receiving care, Cook was booked at the Montgomery County Jail on preliminary charges of intimidation with a deadly weapon, resisting law enforcement with a deadly weapon and operating while intoxicated.
