A Pendleton Trooper fired his gun at a truck early Saturday morning after the man inside tried to run him over.
Trooper Aaron Edwards attempted to pull over a truck at 12:40 a.m. in Connersville after observing it was driving without headlights. Police say when Edwards turned on his siren, the pickup refused to stop and took off at a high rate of speed west of Connersville on State Road 44.
Connersville City Police joined in the chase that ended with the truck driving into a field and striking a tree. Edwards got out of his car and approached the truck to check on the man inside
Police say at that point the driver of the truck, 39-year-old Chad Neukam of Connersville, got the vehicle moving again and tried to run over Edwards.
Edwards fired his gun at the truck causing Neukam to stop. Neukam was not injured by the bullet but was transferred to the hospital with minor injuries from the crash and for toxicology testing.
After receiving care, Neukam was booked in the Fayette County Jail.
Early indications are that alcohol may have played a role in the incident.
The investigation is ongoing.
