Indiana police: Dump truck loses 5 tons of oily soil

ROCKVILLE -

State Police say a dump truck hauling oil-tainted soil from a cleanup site lost about 5 tons of its oily load along a western Indiana roadway.

Police say a witness flagged down the truck's driver Wednesday after noticing that its rear dump gate was open and soil was falling from the truck onto a Parke County road.

A hazardous material crew was sent to clean up a two-mile-long section of the road, which State Police temporarily closed. Police cited 48-year-old Timothy Parke of Jamestown for the road spill and issued warnings for other infractions.

The truck is owned by MZ Transport of Greenwood, which police said appears to be a contractor for the cleanup. Police said they had no information about the site where the load originated.
