An Indiana judge says a medical examiner's conclusion that a newborn baby's death was caused by rat poison her mother ate while pregnant is unreliable and cannot be used at the woman's murder trial.

Marion County Judge Sheila Carlisle ruled that Dr. Jolene Clouse didn't consider other possible causes for the brain bleeding that killed Angel Shuai, including a drug Bei Bei Shuai was given in the hospital after her 2011 suicide attempt.

Clouse performed Angel's autopsy.

Prosecutors charged Shuai with murder and feticide in March 2011. She was released on bond last May after more than a year in jail. She faces an April 22 trial.

A spokeswoman says prosecutors are reviewing Friday's ruling.

The case has drawn international attention from reproductive rights advocates.
