MONTGOMERY COUNTY -

A crash Saturday morning in Montgomery County claimed the life of a 24-year old man.

State police were called to the scene at 7:48 a.m. on I-74 eastbound.  A semi, driven by Max Jackson of Beach Grove, ran into the back of a Chevrolet Impala parked in the emergency lane.

A preliminary investigation by the State Police found the car pulled over to switch drivers.

Jackson was driving his semi eastbound on I-74 when the lens of his glasses fell to the floor.  He reached down to pick up the lens, causing him to leave the roadway and hit the Impala.

Hugh Guild from Indianapolis was exiting the car at the time of the accident and was killed.  There were three other passengers in the car, two were not injured and one was transported to St. Vincent Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.
