Diocese cleared in suit claiming boy was bullied

FORT WAYNE -

A jury in Fort Wayne has sided with the Fort Wayne-South Bend Catholic Diocese against a family's claim their son was bullied at school.

The Journal Gazette reports the Allen Superior Court jury ruled Friday that the local diocese was not negligent as the family had claimed.

The boy attended Most Precious Blood Catholic School for the sixth and seventh grades in 2008 and 2009 and claimed some of his classmates referred to him with gay slurs, talked obscenely about his mother, physically abused him and stole his pencils.

The jury found one of the boy's classmates inflicted emotional distress but it awarded no financial damages.
