John Legend & the Roots win national award for philanthropic work

WASHINGTON -

John Legend and The Roots will be receiving awards from the arts advocacy organization Americans for the Arts and The United States Conference of Mayors.

They will receive the 2013 Citizen Artist Awards in Washington later this month. President and CEO of Americans for the Arts, Robert Lynch, cites the Grammy award-winning artists for being "extraordinary advocates for the arts and arts education."

Previous honorees include Stevie Wonder, Gloria Estefan, Herbie Hancock and Tony Bennett.
