Indianapolis firefighters saved a family pet from a house fire Tuesday.

Crews were called to the scene on Herford Drive in Cumberland Tuesday morning. Heavy smoke was pouring from the two-story home when firefighters arrived.

Neighbors told firefighters that a pet boxer named Sascha was trapped in the burning home. Firefighters located the dog and brought her out unharmed.

The homeowner was at work when the fire broke out and on her way home after receiving a call from her brother that the house was on fire.

In all, 13 IFD units were dispatched and they got the fire under control in about 20 minutes. It's believed the cause was electrical.

The home sustained significant damage as the fire took hold quickly and travelled from the first floor to the attic. Damage is estimated at $350,000 including the home and its contents.

The family has insurance and will stay with relatives. IFD says the home had working smoke detectors, and there were no injuries.
