Death camp survivor to speak at Terre Haute museum

TERRE HAUTE -

A man who escaped the Nazi death camp where former Ohio autoworker John Demjanjuk served is due to speak this week at the CANDLES Holocaust Museum in Terre Haute.

The museum says Thomas Blatt, now 85, is one of the last living survivors of an uprising and escape from the Sobibor death camp in eastern Poland. Blatt escaped when he was 16.

He's due to speak at 6:30 p.m. Thursday before museum founder Eva Kor hosts a screening of the film "Escape from Sobibor." The screening is free and open to the public.

The Ukrainian-born Demjanjuk was convicted by a German court in 2011 on 28,000 counts of being an accessory to murder at Sobibor. Demjanjuk, who maintained his innocence, died last year while appealing his convictions.
