A central Indiana police department is collecting donations to help officers in Newtown, Conn., affected by the Dec. 14 shooting that killed 20 first-graders and six adults.
The Fishers Police Department and Fishers Police Foundation said in a statement Monday that the money collected will help the Connecticut officers pay for counseling or cover bills while they're on leave to recover.
Many of the Newtown officers who were the first on the scene of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School have been unable to return to work because of trauma from the event.
Donations can be made payable to the Fishers Police Foundation and mailed to 4 Municipal Drive, Fishers, Indiana, 46038. They also can be dropped off at the Fishers Police Department Monday through Friday.
