Indiana Statehouse bust to honor Ex-Gov. Whitcomb

INDIANAPOLIS -

Indiana's oldest living governor will be honored by its next governor over the weekend with the dedication of a bust of him at the Statehouse.

The bust of former Republican Gov. Edgar Whitcomb will go on display with the ceremony Sunday at the Statehouse in Indianapolis. The office of Gov.-elect Mike Pence says he'll take part in the ceremony honoring Whitcomb the day before he's sworn into office.

Whitcomb turned 95 in November. He was a Japanese prisoner of war during World War II and Indiana's secretary of state before being elected governor in 1968 and serving four years in office. He then completed a round-the-world sailing voyage when he was 78.

Whitcomb is slightly older than his successor as governor, Otis Bowen, who turns 95 next month.
