Connersville woman accused of bilking local union

RICHMOND -

An eastern Indiana woman is facing embezzlement charges for allegedly stealing more than $25,000 from an auto workers union.

Fifty-one-year-old Connie S. Sayne of Connersville was charged Tuesday with embezzlement after federal prosecutors say they discovered that she allegedly stole about $25,700 over a period of nearly two years from Wayne County's United Auto Workers Local 3050.

Documents filed in federal court indicate Sayne became the union local's financial secretary in 2009 and was a signatory on the checking account for the union. She's accused of writing 64 unauthorized checks to herself from the union's account.

The Palladium-Item reports that U.S. Attorney Joe Hogsett says Sayne has agreed to plead guilty to the charges, but no court date has been set.
