Three tribal leaders indicted over hunts

GREAT FALLS, MONTANA -

Three Blackfeet tribal leaders have been indicted on charges of holding illegal big-game hunts for Josh Thompson and Justin Moore as part of a TV show.

Jay St. Goddard, Jay Wells and Gayle Skunkcap Junior have pleaded not guilty to six felony counts, including conspiracy and the illegal sale of tribal wildlife.

Federal prosecutors say the three men made a deal to exchange big game hunts for TV exposure on the syndicated show "The Sovereign Sportsman." The show's website shows Thompson shooting a bull elk in 2010.

The indictments say Moore shot a bull elk in 2011. Thompson and Moore are not charged. Their publicists have not responded to calls for comment.

Supporters of the three indicted men say it's a matter of tribal politics because one was kicked off the tribe's council last year.
