Ft. Wayne woman gets 40 years in crash that killed 2

Posted: Updated:

A northeastern Indiana woman has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for driving while intoxicated and causing a crash that killed a Fort Wayne couple.

Fifty-year-old Corina Hurtado was sentenced Friday by an Allen County judge who also ordered her to pay $25,270 in restitution. The Fort Wayne woman had pleaded guilty to two counts of operating a motor vehicle with a controlled substance in her system and causing death.

The Journal Gazette reports that Hurtado was fleeing a minor crash when her car plowed into a van, killing 79-year-old Harold Bebout. His wife of more than 53 years, 74-year-old Starr Bebout, died five days later.

Blood tests showed that Hurtado had cocaine in her system and a blood-alcohol content more than twice the state's legal limit.
