Lafayette mayor wants flood-prone golf course closed - 13 WTHR Indianapolis

Lafayette's mayor is seeking to close a flood-prone city golf course that's become a financial drain on the city due to periodic flood damage.

Mayor Tony Roswarski said Friday he'll recommend the closure of the Lafayette Golf Course because it "operates at a loss." The Journal & Courier reports that the course overlooks the Wabash River and is located in its flood-plain.

Roswarski says the golf course experienced minor flooding in 2009, but major flooding in subsequent years cost the city more than $231,000 to put the course back in play.

Lafayette offered rebates to season passholders in 2010 while the course was out of commission for repairs, and those rebates and discounted season passes amounted to $73,000 in 2011 and 2012.
