FORT WAYNE -

The Fort Wayne-South Bend Catholic Diocese says its retired bishop has been diagnosed with cancer for a second time.

The diocese says 80-year-old Bishop Emeritus John D'Arcy was diagnosed after he came down with nausea and a severe headache while in Boston for the holidays visiting family and friends.

D'Arcy was treated for prostate cancer in 2011, but diocese spokesman Sean McBride tells The Journal Gazette he couldn't disclose what type of cancer D'Arcy now has.

D'Arcy retired in 2010 after 24 years leading the diocese when he was succeeded by Bishop Kevin Rhoades. D'Arcy continues serving as a chaplain at Bishop Luers High School and other church activities.

McBride says D'Arcy expects to spend three weeks receiving outpatient treatment in Boston before returning to Fort Wayne.
