Busy travel day

INDIANAPOLIS -

The holidays are behind us. Now, millions of people will be heading home and back to work. This holiday travel season is the biggest in six years.

Most travelers are taking to the road. Triple-A estimates more cars on the highways than ever before because bargain seats on planes were hard to find. So no matter where you go, you're probably going to find you have a lot more company on the road today.

One in four Americans drove long distances for Christmas and New Year's. Gas prices had a lot to do with that.

At the airport, about 24-thousand passengers will be arriving and departing today. While that's not as many as traveled around Thanksgiving, it is a substantial number.

And while over Christmas there were issues at airports across the country with weather delays, that doesn't appear to be the case today. So you have no excuses for not making it back to work in time.

Going forward, both the Wall Street Journal and USA Today have compiled a travel forecast for the year. Here's what they predict if you're planning to fly this year:

More Legroom
Speedier Security
You Will Pay More
You Will Find Less Competition
