Governor Daniels eager to take Purdue's reins

WEST LAFAYETTE -

Gov. Mitch Daniels says he's so eager to take over as Purdue University's new president he won't take any break after leaving the governor's office.

Daniels' second term as governor ends Jan. 14 as soon as fellow Republican Mike Pence is sworn in as Indiana's 50th governor. He says that not long after Pence takes the oath of office he'll be headed to West Lafayette to begin his new job at Purdue.

Daniels, who was selected in June to be Purdue's president, says everybody keeps asking him how long of a break he'll be taking after he leaves the Statehouse.

He tells the Journal & Courier he's kept Purdue waiting one semester "and that is long enough," adding "I think that it is time to get to work."
