INDIANAPOLIS -

The National Weather Service in Indianapolis has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for New Year's Eve, December 31, 2012. The advisory is in effect from 1 p.m. this afternoon until 7 a.m. Tuesday. This will bring accumulating snow to central Indiana.

At this point, one to three inches of accumulation is predicted for the Indianapolis metro area, with areas of four-inch accumulation if heavier bands develop.

The snow will start early Monday afternoon with a one-inch accumulation by 7:00 pm in some spots. Periods of snow and flurries linger into New Year's Day morning. Roads will be wet to slushy after sunset. Watch out for ice on roads overnight.

The following counties are included in the advisory: Carroll-Warren-Tippecanoe-Clinton-Howard-Fountain-Montgomery-Boone-Tipton-Hamilton-Madison-Delaware-Randolph-Vermillion-Parke-Putnam-Hendricks-Marion-Hancock-Henry-Vigo-Clay-Owen-Morgan-Johnson-Shelby-Rush-Sullivan-Greene-Monroe-Brown-Bartholomew-Decatur-Knox-Daviess-Martin-Lawrence-Jackson-Jennings.

Cities included in the advisory: Lafayette, Frankfort, Kokomo, Crawfordsville, Anderson, Muncie, Indianapolis, Terre Haute, Shelbyville, Bloomington, Columbus, Vincennes, Bedford and Seymour.

A winter weather advisory for snow means that periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow-covered roads and limited visibilities. Use caution while driving.

Indy Snow Force brought plow drivers in at 11:00 p.m. Sunday night to prepare for treating and plowing roads once the snow arrives.
