KANSAS CITY, Mo. -

An Indianapolis squad that won just two games last season is now 10-5 and heading to the playoffs.

With Sunday's win, the Colts clinched an AFC playoff berth. It's the perfect Christmas gift for Coach Chuck Pagano, who is expected to return this week after battling leukemia all season.

After a messy first quarter, the Kansas City Chiefs got back in the game with an 86-yard touchdown run from Jamaal Charles.

The touchdown brought the score to 13-10 with the Colts still in the lead, but it meant the Chiefs, who have struggled all season, would not be so easily written off.

Ecstatic fans pulled Charles into the stands to give him hugs and pats on the back after the play.

Later in the third quarter, a field goal tied the game for Kansas City at 13-13.

With a little over four minutes to go in the fourth quarter, the Colts moved ahead once again 20-13 (Reggie Wayne got the seven-yard pass from T.Y. Hilton.) That was enough to keep the Colts on top, ensuring them a trip to the playoffs.

The Colts took an early lead against the Chiefs in the first half. While Kansas City moved the ball, they could not translate that into points on the board.

Darius Butler got a touchdown for the Colts on a 32-yard interception return. Adam Vinatieri's kick was good to make it 7-0.

Ryan Succop kicked a 47-yard field goal to put the Chiefs on the scoreboard, 7-3 in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, a field goal from Vinatieri put the Colts ahead 10-3, and a second field goal left the Colts at 13-3 at halftime.
