Ind. State Museum exhibit looks at Lincoln family

INDIANAPOLIS -

The Indiana State Museum is taking a deep look into Abraham Lincoln's family in an exhibit that asks why it didn't spawn a political dynasty.

The Indianapolis Star reports an exhibit opening Feb. 9 at the museum will explain what exactly happened.

"The Lincolns: Five Generations of an American Family" examines Lincoln's family from his grandparents to his last direct descendant.

That was Robert Todd Lincoln Beckwith, Lincoln's great-grandson, who died at a Virginia nursing home in 1985.

The 16th president's only surviving son, Robert Todd Lincoln, proved highly competent and served in several cabinets. He also became wealthy as president of the Pullman Railroad Co. His son, Abraham Lincoln II, showed similar promise.

But he died at age 16 from an infection while studying in France in 1890.
