RICHMOND -

A nonprofit group in eastern Indiana has embarked on a campaign to raise $400,000 to demolish blighted properties in the city of Richmond.

Economic Growth Group vice president Mike Allen says he came up with the idea after noticing unsafe and unsightly properties in the city and wondering why they had not been razed.

His nonprofit group that uses private funds to support economic development announced Friday it hopes to raise $50,000 from local businesses and then match that amount. The Palladium-Item reports that the city of Richmond has already pledged to add $300,000 if the EGG is successful in raising $100,000.

The nonprofit group's past project include relocating the Model T Museum in Richmond and renovating the city's historic Spinning Building.
