Developer meets deadline on central Indiana wind farm

Posted: Updated:
WINDFALL -

The developer of a wind farm that is eventually planned to reach into four central Indiana counties says it has met a deadline to finishing building 125 turbines for the project's first phase.

The company had faced a Dec. 31 deadline to have the Wildcat Wind Farm's turbines built in order to qualify for federal tax credits.

E-on Climate & Renewables project manager Andy Melka tells the Kokomo Tribune that 101 of the turbines are in operation with the remaining 24 expected to start up soon. He says the wind farm's maintenance and operations facility near the Tipton County town of Windfall also has been completed.

The current turbines are in Tipton and Madison counties. Nearly 200 more turbines are planned in Howard and Grant counties in later phases.
