INDIANAPOLIS -

A high wind warning is in effect for central Indiana until 7:00 am Friday, bringing sustained winds of 40 mph and gusts over 55 mph through Friday morning.

Strong winds are blamed for damage to a building on the near east side of Indianapolis. A police officer used his patrol car to block traffic and keep drivers from running over bricks littering the road.

Truck drivers traveling through central Indiana are hoping for luck, too, despite the strong wind gusts. Police are investigating whether high winds are to blame for several overturned semis. Truckers say people who drive near big rigs should watch out.

"With the winds, when you got the trailer on, is staying in your lane," said Tremaine Lee. "Staying in your lane is a big thing and then watching your speed."

"You never know if it is empty or loaded and empty makes it harder to control in this kind of wind," said Tim Strasser.

The high wind predictions may pose a threat to your outdoor Christmas decorations, especially those elaborate displays.

On the north side, Linda Eichholtz was listening to the forecast all morning. Her family planned their holiday display ahead of time because of past experience.

"Mostly everything is staked down pretty good. We've done this for several years and we have had pretty good luck," she said. "It is really pretty and the wet doesn't seem to bother it much at all. We have had a new circuit breaker put in especially for electricity so we are pretty good as far as keeping everything lit, but wind is a factor sometimes."

If you cannot secure your outdoor holiday decorations within the next few hours, you may want to take them inside or put them in the garage temporarily and put them back out once we get out the threat of high winds Friday.
