INDIANAPOLIS -

One person was killed and another injured when they were struck by a vehicle near Fountain Square.

The accident happened near Prospect and Shelby streets around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday. Investigators believe a red van driven by 20-year-old Joseph Crandall of Indianapolis was traveling south on Shelby Street and jumped a curb as Crandall turned west onto Prospect Street. The van struck two pedestrians, who were walking west on the sidewalk on the south side of Prospect Street.

Police say a male victim was dead at the scene. The other, 35-year-old Aaron Schaler of Indianapolis, is receiving medical treatment.

The driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene and is talking to police. Investigators do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Police are still investigating the crash.
